Hovering over a feature will tell you, they should be pretty straightforward. Let's take a closer look at a settler and talk about what this information means and what to look for.įirst, we have traits, the colored words with icons. Generally speaking, the fewer drawbacks and more positive traits a settler has, the higher the cost of his DNA. You pay for this when you first buy the settler, and it costs nothing to grow it after that, so if someone dies, you can get it back without spending DNA again. Please note that each settler has a DNA cost.
#Starmancer engine upgrade
You can upgrade as much as you want for your first 3 settlers, so don't be afraid to upgrade A LOT for units you really like. Here's a quick overview of the UI itself: You should now see a menu that looks like this (your colonists will be different):īefore choosing a settler to start with, there are a few things we should go over. Left click on it and then in the information panel you will see a button for 'Unlock More Settlers'. This is where you can spawn new settlers. There should be a green arrow pointing to the incubation capsule.

Generally speaking, missions won't appear on your list until you've finished the dialogs, so whenever you get a dialog notification on the right side of the screen, remember to click on it.įor our first mission, the game only asked us to spawn a settler. Pause the game again until the "Oh no" pop-up appears:Ĭlicking "OK" a couple of times will give you your first mission. Now that we've closed our extra storage boxes, let's get the game started. Our goal is to get a sustainable base that works with food production and a water purifier before we run out of this initial supply. Remember to check this storage from time to time and unlock new boxes as you run out of your initial supplies. You should leave a couple of them unlocked so the settlers can open them and put in supplies. Go ahead and lock most of your boxes now. Just left click on one of the storage boxes and you will see a button near the bottom to lock / unlock access:Ī locked box will have a gray lock icon at the top and will also display the "Unlock" button instead of the "Lock" button: If we open all the boxes at once it will be a disaster, so we must first mark some of them as untouched. Once a box is opened, it will disappear and the items it contains will take up much more storage space than the box itself. The settlers will automatically open them and contain much-needed supplies such as clean water and food rations. You may have noticed the boxes in the storage area. As your base grows, you'll need to create new storage areas to keep things organized and running smoothly. If you have a long walk to the main storage area, it will take much longer for settlers to walk there and then return to work. Managing the colonists' movement routes is one of the most important parts of this game. (In other words, there is no mineral or metal available in the item list, because we haven't done any mining yet.) Just keep in mind that, in the future, you will be able to create zones and add any combination of items to them as long as you've discovered the item. That means that if an item doesn't have a better place, the settlers will leave it here.įor now, this is what we want, so you can leave this menu untouched. The empty boxes near the top represent any items stored in the tile you clicked on (currently, we don't have anything, so the boxes are probably empty):īelow the tile inventory is the storage area information (allowed items, disallowed items, and reserve area have to do with the storage area).Īs long as elements are NOT allowed, "Is backup zone" will be set to YES.

This is what the tile inventory tab looks like. To know the storage area, we want to go to the "Inventory" tab, which is the second: You will see a pop-up box on the left side of the screen with information about the room. Left click on a tile in the storage area.
#Starmancer engine how to
This is called a 'Storage Zone', it is an area on the floor where the settlers will store items.įirst, let's go over how to get information about this area. Move the camera to the shaded area with the boxes. You can move the camera around its base with WASD and use the middle mouse button or Z and X to rotate your view. You should start by pausing the game, as we don't have a reason to advance in time yet. While paused, there will be a light gray border around the edges of the screen. Press the space bar to pause and resume the game. I chose a light blue core, don't worry if yours looks a little different than mine in the screenshots. The initial map is always the same, you should see your core and the colors you chose in the middle. Once we load into the game, we are presented with our base station. This is all cosmetic so you can choose what you want. When starting a new game, you will be asked to create your core, name yourself, and your station.
